Autorretrato en calor | Heat self portrait 2019
La serie de arte de performance Autorretratos se fundamenta en el tiempo, el cuerpo expuesto a través del tiempo hasta tocar un límite sin traspasarlo. Para el primer Autorretrato en calor tejí una red de henequén delgado que sostuvo mi cuerpo por noventa minutos sobre el calor de cien pequeñas velas. Al reactivar la serie, nueve años después, el tiempo opera de manera expandida, el cuerpo y su forma de exposición hacen lo propio. Ya no fue un hilo mínimo, sino una cuerda de henequén la que conformó el tejido, tampoco sucedió su tejido en soledad, sino en la compañía de mujeres de mi familia y mujeres artistas. Perla Tamez, Virginie Kastel, Libertad Alcántara, Miriam Medrez, Angélica Piedrahita y Sara Medina participaron en el diseño estructural de la red, mi madre – Alicia – tejió sus brazos, mi hermana Connie y Ana Cadena los anudaron a sus soportes, finalmente, Abril Zalez partició en el tejido que cubrió mi cuerpo sobre la red durante la performance. Las velas, no fueron acomodadas y encendidas por el público, sino por las mismas mujeres que me acompañaron en el proceso. Este es mi nuevo autorretrato en calor – un posicionamiento político – cuyo proceso se sostiene simbólica y materialmente en lo colectivo.
The «Self portraits» performance art series is based on the excersice of the body exposed through time until touching a limit without crossing it. For the first «Heat Self-Portrait» I wove a net of thin henequen that supported my body for ninety minutes over the heat of a hundred small candles. When the series is reactivated, nine years later, time operates in an expanded way, the body and its form of exposure did the same. It was no longer a minimal thread, but a henequen rope that formed the fabric, nor did it happen alone, but in the company of women from my family and women artists. Perla Tamez, Virginie Kastel, Libertad Alcántara, Miriam Medrez, Angélica Piedrahita and Sara Medina participated in the structural design of the net, my mother – Alicia – wove her arms, my sister Connie and Ana Cadena tied them to their supports, finally, April Zalez participated in the fabric that covered my body over the net during the performance. The candles were not arranged and lit by the public, but by the same women who accompanied me in the process. This is my new self-portrait in heat – a political position – whose process is symbolically and materially sustained in the collective.
